In Acupuncture we have a very unique way of diagnosing potential issues, especially with infertility.
There are some very specific reasons that can affect your fertility with a strong possibility that these could be the root cause of unexplained infertility for many of you.
These imbalances could be adding to why you might not be getting pregnant with a defined diagnosis such as endometriosis, PCOS or male factor.
Im going to give a very basic view on these, ( any acupuncturist in Cork might be horrified at my explanation – LOL )
So what is this Kidney Energy stuff…. Well first off let me explain…. Your Kidneys are fine…. They are not going to explode… I promise… I always describe the kidney energies to my patients like a battery, maybe your phone is a good example… So lets say you buy a brand new phone charge it up and use it for the day… that night you go home and you phone charge is at 10%. We are not to surprised or concerned, plug it in over night and in the morning we get up…. And the phone is at 100%… job done… use the phone… come back home and recharge…..
So in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, specifically when it comes to your reproductive system…. Kidney energies are really important. They are the ability and energy for ovulation to occur, the energy required for fertilisation of sperm and egg, for that gorgeous embryo to go from a 2 cell to a 4 cell to an 8 cell embryo. If you truly think about this, the cellular splitting of you embryo….. it has to have an energy within the body….. its not happening by magic…… so this energy is Kidney energy….
So 7-9 days post ovulation….. you little embryo travels up into the uterus…. And now it want to embed itself into the uterus…. Now imagine… this little magical embryo…. Trying to dig in and attach itself to the uterine wall….. that’s some amazing process… all happening inside you while you go on through you daily business….. at work. At home….. having coffee with friends….. so as this embryo continues to attach itself…… imagine all the energy required to make this happen….. this is Kidney Energy…..
You get your positive test…… your in shock… your delighted… over the moon…. And maybe freaking out…..
As we go from week 4 to week 5 to week 6….. as your babies heart beat starts….. where there is two heart beats inside you. You and you babies….. this is all Kidney Energy….. the growth and development of the pregnancy…. The starting of your babies heart beat…. All happening inside you…… this is Kidney Energy……
So quick question here……. Lets say you Doctor has never heard of this concept…. The energetics of the reproductive system….. BTW there is a 99.999999999% chance that your current reproductive doctor has never heard of this, never looked into it…. And there’s a good reason. Their focus is on the functionality of the reproductive system…. The ruction of the ovaries, the ruction of the uterus, the function of hormones in the body….. this is why we call it Functional Medicine…… What is this ruction of this… what is the ruction of that….. Fuctionally you ovaries could be working, functionally the uterus is there and you having periods…. We have sperm…. So its functionally there…. HOWEVER…… your diagnosis is Unexplained Infertility – via the Fictional Medicine Route……
Now come to me…. And I see a big big big Imbalance in your Kidney Energy….. the energy for the creation of Life… to me its not unexplained…… Its a Kidney Deficiency……
There are two main types of Kidney Deficiency…. Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang….. and these are just terms of description. They help us to define the issue…..
So for example and this is just an example for blog purposes…. There is a lot more to it…
So lets say…. For example, using our diagnostic tools of Pattern differentiation – this is how we diagnose… We take a group of seemingly irrelevant symptoms and create a pattern…..
So Kidney Yang, typically could be…. Some one who has poor circulation, cold hands, cold feet. They have lower back pain just before their period…. And libido might be low…. Where typically the only time the affairs of the bedroom occur are around ovulation time… mainly because your OPK – Ovulation Predictor Kit told you so……
Kidney Yin is a little different…… well a lot different its the opposite to Kidney Yang….. you might find you have a little more heat in the body….. suffer from hot flashes or night sweats before your period….. maybe your period is scanty and you notice around ovulation time that you don’t have a lot of cervical secretions… so imagine this heat consuming the fluids of the reproductive system…..
So what we have done is take a number of symptoms and put them into a pattern…… and that pattern is what we treat…. Its amazing how easily we all fall into patterns…. As humans we are creators of habit…. We follow patterns…. How we go to work, what we wear…. How we deal with problems…. Tend to follow patterns…. well… so does disease….. it follows a pattern….. so even though a simple question to you with a simple answer seems insignificant on its own… put that into a pattern and that’s the reason you not getting pregnant… that’s the reason you are miscarrying….. there is no such thing as unexplained….. just poor diagnosis…..
